Americans United has been attacking the Christian religion since the group was founded in 1947. They have wrongly interpreted the intent of the First Amendment in an effort to force their radical liberal views on Americans. The First Amendment to the United States Constitution in their view calls for the "total separation of religion and state". In actuality the framers of the Constitution wrote the Amendment to protect its citizens from an "official state church" - like the State Church of England established by an Act of Parliament in 1534.
